Shawn Danaher, Chief Instructor

Born and raised in Camarillo, Sensei Shawn has been training Shotokan karate since 1992 and teaching for more than 20 years. He earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 1998 and holds the title of Chief Instructor, awarded in 2015.

  • Trained under Shihan Hiroyasu Fujishima and Sensei Victor Young
  • 30+ years of karate training, 20+ years of teaching experience
  • BA in Psychology, Cal State Channel Islands

Teaching & Community

  • Leads children and adult classes at Camarillo Shotokan
  • Co-founder of CSUCI Karate Club & Ventura satellite dojo
  • Runs Stranger Danger safety programs for local schools
  • Hosts the annual Pacific Coast Karate Championships
  • Experience teaching students with disabilities and youth outreach programs

Awards & Recognition

Sensei Shawn has earned multiple Grand Champion titles and First Place awards in kata, kumite, and open forms. He is the recipient of the Dalke Cup (2014) and the Budo Award (2015), and has demonstrated karate at cultural events including Obon Festival, JACL, and Martial Arts Expo.
