Sensei Larry began his training at the West Los Angeles Karate dojo (JKA Shotokan) in 1978 under Sensei George Takahashi. In December of 1983, he earned the rank of Sho Dan (First Degree black belt) and in 1989, the rank of Ni Dan (Second Degree). Employed at Amgen as a Research Associate, he joined the newly formed club there started by Sensei Armstrong. In 1996, he earned the rank of San Dan (Third Degree) at the West L.A. dojo.
Sensei Daugherty continues to help teach and oversee the teaching duties Amgen Karate Club along with Senpai Edmund while Sensei Armstrong is abroad and trains regularly at Camarillo Shotokan dojo.
He is married and a father of two daughters.
