Sensei Jason began Karate training in his native country of Australia. He was responsible for opening the Amgen Karate Club (then Renbukan in Thousand Oaks, CA) in the early 90's where he trained many diligent and talented students. He recently moved back to Australia where he started a club at the university that's flourishing with many enthusiastic members. He first started teaching Shito-Ryu Karate in 1986 in Australia and then moved to the U.S. in 1991. During both the 80's and 90's, he competed in numerous Karate tournaments in Asia, Australia, U.S., Japan and has lived as an "uchi deshi" (live-in student) of a Japanese master. He most enjoys practicing Karate as a traditional art and passing the teachings of that art on to students so that those lessons can be applied both in the dojo and in life.
Sensei Armstrong has a Ph.D. in Human Physiology and has worked as the CEO of a Biotechnology company based in Tokyo. He now runs a corporate training organization called Applied Zen (www.AppliedZen.com) which translates the lessons of Budo, and the Art of War, into business strategy. He returns to California frequently to teach the Amgen club and train at Camarillo Shotokan.
