Senpai Don was born in Las Vegas, Nevada and raised on the West Coast and in Japan.  In 2003 he needed a change in his life, and decided to try martial arts so he began his search for a legitimate karate school.  After watching an adult class at Camarillo Shotokan, it was clear this was the premier dojo (training hall) in the area.  The traditional dojo structure, excellent Sensei (teacher) and group of senior students made the choice easy.  Don received his Sho Dan (1st degree black belt) in November 2008, after five years of training.  Having lived in Japan and served in the US Navy, the structure and traditional aspects of Camarillo Shotokan Karate Do fit what Don was looking for in a dojo.

He can often be found at the dojo, both training and helping other students.  He has competed in many tournaments and attends seminars in Shotokan and other styles as well as various Kobudo (traditional weapons) classes.

Don has lived in Ventura County with his wife for 30 years.  He has two daughters and a grand daughter who also trains at Camarillo Shotokan.  He is a manager of a semiconductor clean room facility.  He enjoys fishing and camping, motorcycle riding and helping others less fortunate.
