Passing by the dojo in May 2002, Claudia saw a sign announcing a new Adult Beginner Class. Not being a “Gym Girl”, she said to herself, “why not?” Four years later, karate has become an integral part of her life. It has shown her that hard work can elevate one’s spirit, mind and body. Karate has taught Claudia self perseverance, respect, loyalty and most of all humility.
Claudia claims that earning her black belt has been a major achievement for her. It has impacted her life, her family and especially her daughter who has also taken a strong interest in karate. Getting to this level has not been easy. It has been four years of dedication to mental and physical training. Higher levels of Shotokan Karate require higher levels of dedication and work, but it all pays off.
A native of El Salvador, Claudia relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1982. In 1997, she moved to Camarillo. Today, she has a daughter and son who are involved in the youth classes.
Claudia has been involved in the export business and currently works for a cable television parts manufacturing company. Favorite pastimes include crocheting, softball, bowling, cooking, camping and spending time with her family. Also as time permits, Claudia lends a helping hand with the Lil’ Tigers pre-karate program.
“I enjoy the traditional Japanese structure of his dojo, which carries over with our students in competitions. It has been a lot of hard work, and the journey is not over yet!”
