Senpai Theresa Lowe, 1st Dan
Senpai Theresa was born and raised in Camarillo - a real native. She attended local schools and graduated from Adolfo Camarillo High School. She then move to East Los Angeles where she attacked the respected L.A. County USC Medical Center Registered Nursing Program. Upon graduation, Theresa began working in Pediatric Psychology. Moving from this to Obstertrics and currently working in Cardio-Vascular surgery associated with Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA.
Theresa began studying Shotokan at the dojo of Sensei Marcus Young (Sensei Victor's son), along side Sensei Shawn. After achieving her yellow belt, Sensei Marcus encouraged his students to move to Sensei Victor, as he closed his dojo for other pursuits. Theresa then continued the long journey required in earning her Black Belt.
Senpai Theresa is known throughout our dojo for her total dedication and never-ending enthusiasm for anything having to do with martial arts. Along the way in her journey to becoming a Senpai, she has had more than the average number of obstacles. As a greeen belt, she tore her AC ligaments in both knees (not karate related). She chose to be the only candidate known to her surgeon to have both knees repaired at once - in order to miss as little training as possible. She was out for three months with surgery and rehab. Later as a purple belt, she was involved in a Jet Ski accident which tore her PC ligament; and again, was out for a period of time for more surgery and rehab. At this point, her surgeon explained that her knees would never support her for anything as strenous as karate. Being the strong spirited person she is, she proved him wrong! Theresa even continued class during her pregnancy until the very week before giving birth to her son. Then once again, returned to the dojo as soon as she was cleared for activity.
Senpai Theresa has been voted in the dojo as "Most Inspirational Student" four times (once a year) by her fellow students. She is supported at home by her husband and two children. Theresa is very proud of the representation of women in our dojo, and is always willing to help anyone who asks for it.
